The postpartum time can be a time focused completely on the new baby. We mustn’t forget about ourselves at this very vulnerable time. It is very important to replenish blood, nutrients and renew physical strength. Nourishing your body well at this time also helps to support mood and hormone health and set you up for a positive motherhood journey.

Recovery from the birth and breastfeeding your baby can take a huge toll on you as the new mother. Adequate nutrition and rest combined with the appropriate postnatal support from family/whanau and friends can ensure that optimal recovery occurs for your body and mind.

It is essential to remember it took nine months for your amazing body to grow your baby, so be kind and give yourself time to recover and replenish. It can take from 18-24 months to recover fully. Postpartum depletion is REAL. If you feel like you are behind in your recovery and still feel depleted when your baby is just turning one – this is normal!
